My desire to be a psychotherapist grew out of my own experiences in therapy. Though I was raised to be strong and self-reliant, skills that served me well in my first career as a litigation attorney, I found in therapy a place to explore my vulnerabilities, my doubts, my fears, as well as my creativity, gifts, talents and dreams. Over the years and with the help of several different therapists, I found my way to the deeper security of integrity, interdependence and authenticity, opening the door to more satisfying relationships, a reliable sense of well-being, and the courage to live out my dreams and passions with curiosity, rather than fear of failure. One of my deepest joys is to accompany others on this journey of discovery, self-compassion, healing, transformation and expansion. Wherever you are is a good place to start.
My approach to therapy is informed by training and experience in depth psychology, which views psychological and physical symptoms as meaningful expressions of the need for healing and transformation; and interpersonal neurobiology and attachment theory, which recognize the way that early relationship experience forms our ways of relating to self and others, which continue to operate subconsciously, until we can bring these patterns to awareness and change those that no longer serve our well-being. Working with body awareness and grounding help to connect more deeply with the ongoing guidance provided by physical sensations, feelings and emotions, as well as access to the memories and related beliefs about self and others that are operating below the surface of conscious awareness. Developing compassion for our early relationship experience as children is another key facet of the healing journey.
I also have extensive training and experience in family systems therapy, conflict management and resolution, co-parenting work, child and adult development, and the communication principles and boundaries that support healthy relationships with self and others.
